Topology Explorer

Using Fabrica’s Topology Explorer, users can quickly identify a failed component by traversing underlying resource models. Implemented as a tree-based graph, Explorer provides information about the application components’ resources, their dependencies and severity status. It also includes an event browser which displays open messages affecting the resources. Topology Explorer supports the definition of extended resource hierarchies, advanced severity calculation and propagation rules, multiple association types, and automation actions.

Service Dashboard

Fabrica’s Service Dashboard streamlines navigation across multiple service views by emulating a virtual command and control center interface. The dashboard supports user-configurable layout options and can filter materialized views by business unit, operational status, value rank, and nesting layer. In large-scale environments, users can easily access nested diagrams from the top level views.

Service Level Monitoring

Service level monitoring capabilities implemented in Fabrica enable IT organizations to improve operational efficiencies. They gauge service performance and compliance, and measure financial impact at the component level. These capabilities include a customizable dashboard, black-out calendar, interval filtering, impact profiling, financial impact analysis, runtime and historical reporting.

Automation

Fabrica enables managers to enforce comprehensive event-response policies by linking severity change events with automation actions (e.g., if a component enters a critical state, Fabrica generates a trouble ticket in OpenView ServiceDesk). Supported automation actions include OS programs, scripts, runtime-loaded java classes, SNMP traps and notifications.

Notification & Alerts

Fabrica includes an intelligent alert facility which can notify users via standard communication interfaces and wireless Ambient Devices in the event of service level violation. The subsystem implements user-configurable delivery options as well as de-duplication and timeout capabilities that reduce messaging overload. To enhance the monitoring experience on NOC-stationed LCD monitors, severity changes can be accentuated using shape highlights and polyphonic alerts.

Layer Manager

Integrating multiple interdependent resources into a consolidated service model always incurs the challenge of evaluating the impact of each resource on the overall service status. This is especially true for failure scenarios which span hundreds of physical and logical resources ranging from network devices to database servers. Fabrica’s Layer Manager helps users visualize the incremental impact of each Layer (such as Directory Services) by interactively toggling layer-associated resources from the service model and its graphical representation. The “masked” view provides a precise and efficient way of identifying the cause of the problem at a higher level of abstraction than with traditional root cause analysis.
